Fabio

We had to have the big guy put to sleep today. A sad finale to a grand 12-year run for the belly bellissimo. He was in every way a feast for our eyes, a koala in our laps, a strain on our furniture. He was a tactile marvel with a purr that could shake a house off its foundations.

He purred right to the end, and then he was asleep. I hope he dreams forever of fat, slow mice.

Oh, how awful. Been there more times than I care to remember, and it always has ripped me up. I'm glad Fabio was purring and that the end was handled well, medically speaking; having had one such experience go horribly, horribly wrong I wholly appreciate good veterinary care.

I'll miss hearing tale of the old boy. How are Shmool and the rest of the family taking it?

Thanks Tim. It was a long and rough ride, and if nothing else I'm glad it's finally over with.

Fabio was out of the house for nearly a week, being shuttled between clinics and hospitals, so the other guys have probably already adjusted to his absence. But they definitely picked up on our mood today. It didn't stop Shmool from demanding his dinner on time and then biting me for good measure, though. :)

Shmool no doubt will put together a fitting eulogy for his brother, once his personal secretary is feeling up to taking dictation again.

Oh no - I'm sorry for your loss. Fabio was a great cat. May he rest in peace, or at least spend eternity chasing fat, slow mice.
